In German usage, Gartenhaus refers to classic garden sheds or simple summer cabins, typically log-cabin construction without year-round insulation. A Gartenbüro is built differently: fully insulated walls, residential-grade glazing, ready for power and data connections, designed for year-round home-office work. The term Gartenstudio is often used synonymously, but leans more toward creative or wellness use. In North Rhine-Westphalia, garden offices up to 75 m³ gross volume are permit-free. All four Konvel models sit well below that at roughly 30 to 51 m³ — so in NRW a building permit is generally not required. Other federal states apply different thresholds; our building-permit page covers all 16 states, and with your postal code we check your situation in advance.

Most customers plan three to four weekends for the self-build — always with two people, the panels are heavy. For tools you need a cordless drill/driver, spirit level, square, tape measure, a heavy-duty staple gun and a hand or power saw. Yes. SIP construction with continuous insulation supports year-round use with moderate energy input. Heating is not part of the kit: for a room this size an electric wall convector or a 1–2 kW infrared panel is usually enough, and your electrician can fit it when connecting the power.Read the full guide

No concrete. The kit sits on a point foundation: foundation pads (e.g. 40 × 40 cm paving slabs) laid to the supplied pad plan on level, compacted ground, slightly above ground level. An existing level patio or paved area works too. Alternatively the configurator offers the ground-screw foundation set — installed in a day and removable without excavation.Read the full guide

Electrical and data connections are not part of the kit. The usual route is an underground cable from the house's consumer unit, laid frost-safe in conduit at about 60 cm depth — an electrician does this, typically for a few hundred to around €1,500 depending on distance. Lay a LAN cable in the same trench: more reliable than Wi-Fi across the garden. The sockets are then fitted to the wall during the interior fit-out.Read the full guide

Delivery to your door is included in the kit price across Germany. The panels arrive on a lorry trailer, so your property needs to be reachable for it. The statutory two-year warranty applies to all delivered parts. Since you build it yourself, the workmanship is your responsibility — if a delivered part is defective, we replace it without fuss.

For buildings with habitable rooms the state building codes generally require a 3 m setback — so not right against the fence. With the neighbour's written consent an exception can be applied for at the building authority. Also check the local development plan (Bebauungsplan): it can further restrict outbuildings, heights or positions.

For your own desk, yes. Liberal professions such as consulting, therapy or coaching are generally permitted in residential areas as long as the use is barely noticeable from outside. Regular visitor traffic, employees or a dedicated treatment room can, however, count as a change of use requiring a permit. Clarify this briefly with your building authority beforehand — we help with the documents about the building.

The SIP envelope is airtight, with a vapour barrier inside, a ventilated cladding outside and a ground membrane below — moisture from the room air cannot get into the structure. What matters after that is how you use it: keep it gently heated in winter rather than letting it cool right down, air it briefly every day, and don't dry laundry or keep lots of plants inside. Clear height is roughly 213 to 226 cm depending on the model — the flat roof falls slightly from front to back. The glass door is 210 cm high.

By default 19 mm European spruce, untreated, which you oil or stain on site — so the tone matches your garden. Further cladding options will be added as soon as they are available.

For spruce, yes — the cladding is delivered raw and sealed on site with wood oil or stain. After that a recoat roughly every three to four years is enough, depending on exposure. If you like the natural silver-grey patina you can leave spruce untreated, but for longevity a coating is the better choice. We show the process in our video series.

Not automatically. Register it with your buildings or contents insurer as an outbuilding — usually possible for a small surcharge, which then also covers storm, hail and the equipment inside.

Often, yes. A free-standing, year-round office in the garden counts for German tax purposes as an external study — its costs are then generally deductible as income-related expenses or business expenses without the cap that applies to home studies, provided the room is used almost exclusively for work. Yes. The kit is entirely screwed together and sits on a pad or ground-screw foundation without concrete — it can be dismantled in reverse order and rebuilt elsewhere. Only sealing tapes and roofing silicone are renewed when rebuilding.

As a tenant you need the landlord's written consent, since the garden office is a structural change. In allotment gardens an office is not possible: the federal allotment act only permits summer houses up to 24 m² without living or office use — so we do not deliver there.

We manufacture in EU workshops using EU materials. Consultation runs from North Rhine-Westphalia, delivery across Germany.

As a rule, rainwater must not be discharged onto neighbouring plots and should soak away on your own land. A gutter with a downpipe keeps that controlled and also protects the cladding and foundation. The matching guttering set is available in the configurator or can be retrofitted at any time.
